Temperature of fire

How hot is a fire?
There is no precise answer to this question because the temperature in a fire depends on what it is that is burning. However here is some data that you might find interesting.

Temperature of the outer core of a candle flame about 1400 oC
Temperature of the centre of a candle flame about 800 oC
Temperature needed to start paper burning about 233 oC (451 oF)
Temperature of an acetylene flame burning in air about 2200 oC
Temperature of an acetylene flame burning in pure oxygen about 2200 oC
Temperature of glowing coals about 1100 oC
Temperature of a log fire about 600 oC
Temperature of the walls of an oven about 500 oC
Temperature of a methane flame burning in air about 1950 oC

In a household fire the temperature at the floor level may be about 100 oC but this could rise to over 600 oC at head height.
