The turboprop

In the turboprop engine a compressor is started by an electric motor, this draws in air, compresses it and then passes it to a combustion chamber.

In the combustion chamber it is mixed with fuel and ignited. The hot gases produced expand and rush out through the blades of a turbine.

The turbine turns and this rotates the propeller which draws in more air. The drive shaft could be fitted to the wheels of a car to give a gas turbine road vehicle.
